The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office mission is to protect lives and property, enforce the laws of the State of Texas, provide a safe, secure humane and just jail facility for inmates and to serve persons in the county in a cost effective way.
Sheriff Johnson is a native of Dalhart Texas, born June 18, 1954. Don met Sandy Smith of Colorado while attending Wayland Baptist. They were married in 1976 just before he joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1977. His first duty assignment was in the Vega area. In 1978 he transferred to Borger where he gave Hutchinson County 34 years as a state trooper.
Sheriff Johnson and Sandy have two grown children Amber, who is a school teacher and Chad who works in the oil field. He and Sandy are proud grandparents of 5 granddaughters and 1 great grandson.
Sheriff Johnson holds a Master Peace Officer certification from Texas Commission On Law Enforcement. This certification takes many years and many hours of training to obtain.
Sheriff Johnson has pledged his commitment to the people of Hutchinson County, he has high principles to ensure the Sheriff's Office is run professionally and with operational excellence. His number one priority as Sheriff is public safety, on a strong foundation of stewardship of tax-payer dollars.
